Clinical Care

Our hospital has many clinical areas, including:

Cardiology

Neurology

General Medicine

Oncology

Surgery / Trauma

Women's Medicine / Pediatrics

Residents are assigned to one or more of these units each semester where they are able to establish relationships and provide consistent spiritual care to both staff and patients under the supervision of one of our Senior Clinical Administrative Chaplains.

Supervision

Our ACPE Certified Educators work alongside residents both individually and as a group to assist in their spiritual care journey. Seminars, discussions of academic journal articles, and interactive lectures are just some of the educational offerings residents receive from our faculty and Senior Chaplains.

In addition to education, our residents work closely with the Senior Clinical Administrative Chaplain in their clinical areas to identify the care needs of units, provide expert care, and reflect on these experiences as they learn what it means to take charge of a clinical care unit as a chaplain.

On-Call Shifts

Our residents take approximately 3 on-call shifts (12 hours each)

As the on-call chaplain, residents remain at the hospital for their entire shift, using our dedicated on-call room as their work and living space. They are the primary contact for chaplain referrals and requests, responding and referring out requests to the rest of the team when able. Working on-call brings invaluable experience responding in a diversity of clinical areas, challenging yourself, and strengthening your ability to respond no matter the situation.
