Artie has extensive experience as a chaplain, having worked as a hospice chaplain, Army National Guard chaplain, and hospice bereavement coordinator. His work focuses on community outreach, palliative spiritual care, grief support, spiritual care for military veterans, and project development.

Currently, he serves as the chaplain for Neurology and coordinates the Duke Hospital Bereavement Services program. Artie is an ordained minister endorsed for chaplaincy by the United Church of Christ, a board-certified chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains, and a certified thanatologist through the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
